A Baltimore County Police officer shot and killed a man in Reisterstown after chasing the man from a pharmacy for trying to collect a fake prescription. Police say the officer pursued the man from the pharmacy to a nearby parking lot, then fired on him following a “confrontation.” The officer was uninjured and it is unclear if the man was armed.
New evidence in the case against the six officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray could mean delayed trials. Defense attorneys for the officers requested a scheduling conference with Judge Barry Williams after prosecutors recently handed over additional evidence. The first trial, for Officer William Porter, was tentatively scheduled to begin October 13th.
A gas leak caused a Columbia townhouse to explode last night, leading to a three-alarm fire that damaged multiple homes. Several nearby homes were severely damaged, and a BGE worker called in to fix the leak and one resident were injured in the blast.

The Baltimore Health Department will receive $20 million in federal grants to fight HIV in the city. The health department’s initiative will target at-risk populations by increasing the availability of testing and treatment, while addressing other factors (like poverty and drug abuse) that prevent proper care and prevention. About 13,400 in Baltimore have been diagnosed with HIV.
The Federal Aviation Administration just fined Cleveland’s international airport $735,000 for a history of dangerous runway conditions during wintry weather. You may want to hold on to something: Ricky D. Smith, the guy in charge of Cleveland’s airport during its streak of slippery runways, was appointed to run BWI in July by Gov. Larry Hogan. Hogan’s transportation chief, Pete Rahn, says they weren’t aware of the FAA investigation when Smith was hired.
