Ft. Meade is partially shut down this AM as police search for a carjacking suspect. The base is in “Reduced Operations” mode, with schools closed, residents asked to stay indoors, and only essential personnel reporting for work.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake spoke at the National Press Club in Washington yesterday, aiming to focus her remarks on what city leaders want from the federal government (Rawlings-Blake is currently the president of the US Conference of Mayors), but reporters in the room had other ideas. Rawlings-Blake mostly fielded questions about April’s unrest and the city’s preparation for the upcoming trials of the six officers charged in Freddie Gray’s death. The mayor described pre-Freddie Gray Baltimore as a “powder keg” and said that the city should have been better prepared for unrest.
43-year-old Eugene Nesbit was shot and killed on Druid Hill Ave. in the Upton neighborhood last night around 9:30pm. Earlier in the day, a cyclist found a body on a wooded trail in the Armistead Gardens in east Baltimore.
