Larry Hogan will take office as Maryland’s 62nd governor, today at noon. In recent interviews, Hogan and friends keep driving home the point that he’s “just a regular guy,”a theme that no leader ever has ever attempted before.

It’s expected to snow today, possibly up to three inches, starting after 9 AM and ending before the evening rush. Maybe we’ll get the response right this time?

A judge has dropped all charges against Michael Johnson, the man accused of murdering 16-year-old Pylicia Barnes in 2010. Johnson has gone to trial for the crime twice. In the first trial, Johnson was convicted by a jury, but the judge overturned the verdict, citing flimsy evidence. At Johnson’s second trial last month, another judge declared a mistrial, ruling that there was insufficient evidence to reach a verdict. Johnson was released from custody last night. The State’s Attorney’s office plans to appeal the decision.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is dropping “minor privilege” fees faced by small business owners. The unpopular fees charged businesses for placing anything in the public right of way: bike racks, holiday decorations, even off-the-sidewalk things like awnings and security cameras. Last year, the mayor vetoed a city council measure to do the same thing.

Wasting no time, the Ravens hired Marc Trestman to replace OC Gary Kubiak.Trestman was just fired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears after one season.
