Officials missed two opportunities this summer to jail Donte Jones, accused of shooting police officer Andrew Groman on Sunday. Jones was arrested in June on a weapons charge, while on probation for earlier drug and weapon offenses, but was released.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake thinks that Police Commissioner Anthony Batts’ emotions got the best of him when he complained about recent police brutality protests in a briefing following the Groman shooting. Batts hasn’t spoken publicly since his comments Sunday night.
