Snow business – Monday, January 26th

Be careful: with a complicated snow forecast, it’s going to be one of those days where everyone is suddenly a weather expert. The chairs are out.


Four children fell through the ice on a pond near Lansdowne High School, just south of city limits. All of the children were pulled from the ice and are recovering.


On Saturday night, a police officer shot and killed a man allegedly wielding a knife at a child’s birthday party. The officer was flagged down in the street by someone at the party, after the man began threatening party-goers with the knife. When the officer arrived, the man refused orders to drop the knife, and was shot in the chest. Police haven’t identified the involved officer yet. This is the third officer-involved shooting in the last month, and the second in the last few days. On Thursday, an officer shot and wounded a suspect, claiming to fear for her life after a pursuit and physical struggle.


Two men in their twenties died in separate shootings in Northeast Baltimore over the weekend. 28-year-old Jason Ballard was killed on Franconia Drive on Saturday, and a yet unidentified 22-year-old was shot to death last night.


Under Armour founder Kevin Plank has been scooping up real estate in Port Covington, leading to speculation that Plank wants to build UA a new, larger campus in the coming years.
