Sun, reasonable humidity, and highs in the upper 80s today. Tomorrow’s looking nice, too.
Seven were shot in the city last night, including a triple shooting of three teenagers. A 13-year-old boy, 15-year-old boy, and 16-year-old girl were hospitalized after being shot on the 800 block of N. Glover Street in East Baltimore.Another shooting wounded three men near Leakin Park. A man was also shot in Druid Heights.
If you’re sick of hearing about these shootings, apparently someone’s tired of cleaning them up. Commuters along York Road yesterday morning were shocked to discover that blood and broken glass from a Tuesday night shooting at a bus stop on the 5200 block still hadn’t been taped off or cleaned up, over 12 hours later. After clamor on social media (and TV news rolling up), the scene was cleaned.
SRB: “I’m concerned that so many young people, with you would hope better home training, got into the melee that they did. What we’re talking about with the buses is just one of a series of bad options. … Let’s say they’re open: What happens if that melee goes onto the subway tracks? What happens if somebody fell on the subway tracks? It was just a bad, bad situation.”
Transit was shut down at Mondawmin before police and students clashed, leaving the thousands of teenagers that use the hub with nowhere to go. Earlier this week, emails revealed that school officials weren’t given a heads-up about the shutdown.
A November fundraiser for the six officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray featuring a blackface performance by Bobby “Al Jolson” Berger, was announced, denounced (by a lawyer for one of the officers, by the police union, and literally everyone else who heard about it), then cancelled. Berger, fired from BPD in the 80s for his blackface routine, still swears there’s nothing racist about his act. OK.
Under Armour’s second quarter earnings were up 29% over last year’s, buoyed by strong footwear sales (thanks, Steph Curry), and the continuing “athleisure” trend.
Under Armour also just announced they’re opening a huge gym at 10 Light Street, a downtown tower recently converted to apartments.
