Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake admits that the city wasn’t as prepared as it could have been for unrest in April, as underscored in thousands of internal emails released to the Baltimore Sun this week. The mayor says that the city has learned from what happened and would be more prepared if there was more unrest in the future.

Rawlings-Blake had an awkward interview with Mary Beth Marsden about her response to rioting on April 27th, especially when Marsden questioned Rawlings-Blake’s “at least nobody died” defense of the city’s actions (near the 13 minute mark).

Police announced two more shooting deaths from Monday, bringing Baltimore to 39 homicides in July and 183 for the year-to-date. Monday’s fatal shootings took part just blocks away from each other, near Penn-North.

MTA says it’ll launch real-time bus info next year. Earlier this year, MTA launched a bus tracking app that was criticized for having less-than-accurate estimated arrival times and a difficult to use interface (civic hackers quickly came up with alternates).

Baltimore’s tallest building, the 37-story Transamerica tower, just sold for $121 million. The buyer, Corporate Office Properties Trust, watched its stock drop 2.4 percent following the sale, with stockholders worried that Baltimore might be a potentially risky buy.

An 8-year-old Owings Mills received the first successful pediatric double hand transplant in Philadelphia earlier this month. Zion Harvey lost both hands and feet due to a sepsis infection when he was 2. As he grows, Zion’s new hands are expected to grow too.
