A 71-year-old man was killed, and 4 others were shot when a gunman opened fire on a crowd of people at a Reisterstown Road shopping center (the one with the MVA office) around 3pm on Friday. Police say they have no suspects or motive for the shooting. James Gaylor, the 71-year-old victim, is remembered by friends as a generous man and a “talker” with a booming voice.
On Sunday afternoon, a 9-year-old girl was shot in the leg when someone opened fire on a group of people in Waverly. The shooting took place one block from where 3-year-old McKenzie Elliott was killed last summer (never solved). The girl is hospitalized with a broken femur. Again, police say they have no suspects or motive for the shooting.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and interim police commissioner Kevin Davis held a press briefing at the scene, calling for witnesses to come forward with information about the shooting.
There were at least four other homicides over the weekend in the city. On Sunday morning, a man was shot and killed near Old Town Mall in east Baltimore. On Saturday afternoon, a 25-year-old man was shot on Janice Ave in south Baltimore and later died of his injuries. Early Saturday, a man was shot to death near Union Square in west Baltimore. On Friday night, a 20-year-old man was shot and killed in northeast Baltimore in an alley near Hillen Rd.
Homicide detectives are also investigating the death of a 5-month-old girl on Saturday in northeast Baltimore. On Friday, police also announced the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man early Friday near Western Run Park in northeast.
A new Goucher College poll suggests that a majority of Marylanders view Gov. Larry Hogan favorably, a huge increase since a poll back in February.The poll of 636 residents hints that even a majority of Democrats approve of how Hogan’s handling his job, though a third of those surveyed hadn’t made up their minds on the governor yet.
A coastal storm that dumped tons of rain locally over the weekend made a mess of the beaches on the Eastern Shore (PHOTOS).
At least they avoided a losing season. On Sunday, the O’s beat the Yankees, 9-4, finishing the year at 81-81.
