A grand jury has indicted the six officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray. A new charge of reckless endangerment was added for each of the six officers, and the false imprisonment charges for three officers were dropped. The officers will be arraigned in Baltimore Circuit Court on July 2nd. It’s unknown why the grand jury returned a slightly different set charges (their proceedings are secret), and legal experts differ in opinion on what the changes may mean.

At a press conference, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake described the recent spate of shootings in the city as “frustrating” and “disheartening,” but noting that the city has seen spikes of crime before, despite generally downward trends. The city’s current spike has seen more murders in 30 days than any other time since 2007, and pushed Baltimore’s homicide count past 100 earlier than any other year since 2007.

The city’s #100 homicide victim of 2015 died early Thursday after a double shooting in Northeast Baltimore.
