It’s Presidents Day – so no mail, trash/recycling service, or school today. Here’s a more detailed set of closings. Today’s closings could be the start of a trend, with a 4-8 inch snowstorm in the forecast for tonight and more snow on the way later this week.


On Saturday morning, 16-year-old Jason Hendrix was killed by Baltimore County police in a shootout after a chase around the Baltimore beltway. Hendrix shot and injured one officer during the standoff. After the shooting, police went to Hedrix’s family home in Corbin, Kentucky, only to discover the bodies of his parents and sixth-grade aged sister. With a lot of details missing, investigators believe Hendrix killed his family on Wednesday night before traveling to Maryland.


Frank M. Conaway, Clerk of the Baltimore City Circuit Court, died this weekend. Conaway was 81. Conaway had a long, colorful and often controversial public career, winning election to the Maryland House of Delegates in the 1970s, and holding his current position since 1998. Conaway unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 1983 and 2011. In December, Conaway announced he was switching parties to become the only elected Republican in Baltimore.


A suspect died in Baltimore City Police custody on Saturday night.According to police, an officer identified a man that matched the description of a man wanted for attempted murder. When the officer approached, the suspect fled on foot into a wooded area of of Old York Road before turning himself over to police. Once in custody, the man began having trouble breathing due a pre-existing condition. An officer performed CPR, but the man died shortly after. The incident is under investigation.
