Investigators believe that last week’s home fire near Annapolis that killed six, including 4 young children, was caused by a sparking electrical outlet next to a dry, old Christmas tree.

Another fire investigation found that the blaze that killed a 2-year-old in the Reservoir Hill neighborhood on Jan. 13 was caused by a malfunctioning space heater.


A man was shot and killed yesterday afternoon in West Baltimore, near Coppin State University’s campus. No word yet on the victim’s identity.


Police are looking for two suspects in an assault and robbery on a pregnant nurse over the weekend. The nurse was in the Guilford neighborhood, walking to her job at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital when she was attacked on Saturday. In a press conference yesterday, police said they knew who they were looking for – the suspects have also been responsible for a recent string of robberies in the neighborhood.


After initially yanking the regulation, Gov. Larry Hogan is allowing a measure that would protect access to Medicaid, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The regulation was drafted by Martin O’Malley shortly before leaving office. Hogan halted the regulation last week, causing criticism from the state’s LGBT community.
